I had the pleasure of meeting Katie Workman yesterday at a “taste and talk” for her new cookbook The Mom 100, and I officially have a wee bit of a girl crush. Oh what the heck, I’m smitten.
She’s funny, this Katie Workman…and real. Along with the 100 recipes “every mom needs in her back pocket”, her book is filled with witty commentary and anecdotes that present cooking for your family as something fun and easy (as it should be). There’s no supermom angst, no unrealistic preachy suggestions. The end game is easy, (mostly) healthy, tasty recipes, because, as Katie noted yesterday during her talk, “who wants a scary, freaked out mom.”
Well played Katie.
And here’s the good news for you local peeps; Katie’s still in town. You can catch her at the Central Market in Plano where she’ll be signing books 4:30-5:30 before teaching a class in the cooking school from 6:30-9:00. The menu for the class looks especially yummy with its Japanese restaurant salad, soy-ginger flank steak, broiled miso cod fingers, sesame noodles, and fruit salad kebabs.
Oh and those brownies pictured above, I may have smuggled three of them into my purse when I left the event yesterday, and they may have been ridiculously delicious. But I’m not saying for sure.
