we heart jess brown

We are a bit obsessed with Jess Brown’s handmade rag dolls, and have a major girl crush on Jess Brown. She is endlessly working on fantastic collaborations, as if her own doll collection isn’t enough. First up let’s talk about the dolls; each one is hand dyed in Persian black teas to create skin tone, has it’s own pretty dress, usually made from Liberty of London fabrics mixed with vintage findings, a beautiful hand sewn face complete with heart shaped lips, and is stuffed with a sustainable corn fiber stuffing.

You may remember this amazing photo essay by Stephanie Rausser last year called Kiki & Coco in Paris, documenting of a day in the life of girl and her doll and their journey through Paris. Well, that collaboration of Jess Brown and Stephanie Rausser has been made into a children’s book, written by Nina Gruener. It will be available in early November by Cameron Books and locally online at littlebeanshop. Little Bean will also have a new batch of big and small rag dolls.

Jess was recently commissioned by Bottega Veneta to create life-size versions of her rag dolls for fashion week Fall 2011. The life-size dolls are displayed in select Bottega Veneta windows around the world. She also just launched her woman’s collection – think soft linen tops in denim and neutrals and knitted charcoal shawls.

OK now you can see why we love Jess Brown…
