five questions — lucia simek

The subject of this week’s five questions is one of our own — tinyDallas’ intrepid arts contributor Lucia Simek… When the rest of the tinyDallas crew gets our first peek at her weekly gallery posts and art imitation DIYs, we are in complete awe.  The woman is just a well-spring of creativity, never failing to conjure up massively cool ideas.  But her immense artfulness is just one aspect of this amazing woman we call friend… She’s also crazy-smart, funny, kind and lovely. Oh and she’s also a brilliant and inspiring mother to her three little monkeys.

So we had to have her take us into the weekend with some of the things that make her tick… Herewith a peek into Lucia’s world.  Have a splendid weekend!

On Heavy Rotation — During the day at home, usually Charlie Parker in the background or Nina Simone’s rich ol’ voice — they keep me mellow and focused. In the car, the kids and I always defer to Monsters of Folk — the jangly, croony, sometimes jingly harmonies of those guys are perfect for the road, and M Ward’s voice is, umm, one of the sexiest I’ve ever heard (though I keep that to myself).

On your nightstand — An enormous stack of books, but Many Masks: A Life of Frank Lloyd Wright by Brendan Gill currently has my undivided attention.

Always in your handbag — Notebook and pen, camera, Burt’s Bees lip balm, diapers and wipes, and The NewYorker, which I attempt to read in the carpool line, waiting rooms and sometimes even in really bad traffic.

Go-to outfit– I’m all about gauzy summer whites during the scorching Texas summer and so I snagged a few airy tops at J.Crew that’ I’ve been living in lately, with Madewell Bootlegger jeans. I’m also a dress-over-jeans kind of gal in every season.

No-brainer restaurant– Bolsa is right up the street, so we end up there a lot — whether it’s for cheap beer and pizza with kids in tow, or a bottle of wine and something more decadent on date night (and that banana-rum tile for dessert!). The decor and the vibe at Bolsa are just right on.
